PQ celebrates having blown only most of its lead in latest poll

The Parti québécois celebrated two polls published yesterday showing that the party had blown only most of its huge lead in the election campaign.

The polls showed that the PQ had lost 6% of popular support, achieving one of its lowest poll results in the party's 40 year history. "We are still in first place and did not experience a Gilles Duceppe-like total meltdown in the first week of the campaign," said a PQ spokesman. "We are encouraged by this."

The PQ said it remained confident of victory, especially if the election were to be held in the next 12 hours.

The PQ remained in first place in the polls with 32%, compared to 29% for the Liberals and 24% for the Coalition avenir Québec. 6% supported Québec solidaire, 3% the Green Party and Jean-Martin Aussant said that he still planned to vote for himself.
