WESTMOUNT -- Parti québécois leader Pauline Marois told reporters yesterday that she was "very afraid" that new anglophone voters may register and vote to defeat the PQ candidate in the hotly-contested riding of Westmount-Saint-Louis.
Westmount Saint-Louis is the riding where both McGill and Concordia Universities are located, leading to some newly-resident students to register to vote there. Concerns that ineligible students may vote Liberal and defeat the PQ candidate by a handful of votes have "terrified" the PQ in recent days, said Marois.
"You may remember that the PQ held the riding of Westmount as recently as 1994," she said. "If the loses Westmount by 1 vote, there will be a lot of problems."
The PQ lost the riding of Westmount to the Liberals by a mere 14,000 votes in 2012.
