Charest promises to create 250,000 new jobs by giving each a contract to build metro cars

Premier Jean Charest was at Berri-UQAM metro station to give more details on his promise to create 250,000 jobs.  He explained that the would create 250,000 contracts to different people to construct one metro car each.

"Our metro car building project has already created hundreds of high-paying jobs, mostly for lawyers," said Charest.  "We want to expand that project by giving out 250,000 contracts to different people so that each may build one metro car at a factory in La Pocatiere."

"Like our Plan Nord and the construction of the Quebec City arena, this plan will create jobs by throwing a lot of public money at a large project where no one really worries about the cost," said Charest.  "Sure, it would have been cheaper to cut everyone involved a cheque for half a million dollars, but Quebecers are concerned want jobs."

He expected the construction of the new metro cars to be ready by 2235.
