We're ready for religious symbols ban, say both of Quebec's religious minority civil servants

Both the Muslim and the Bhuddist who will be affected by the Parti Quebecois' promised ban on religious symbols in the civil service say that they will be able to adjust to the new policy.

Banzan Buddhamitra, who was hired following a computer glitch at the Ministry of Transport, said he rarely wore any religious symbols to work.  "I guess I will remove from my office the little cat with the pendulum arm that has some Buddhist sayings in Chinese on it, but that's about it."

Suzanne Belanger, who converted to Islam after her probation period was over at the Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires, said that she didn't think anyone at the office realized that she was Muslim and so it would not make any difference to her career.  However, to be on the safe side she would not bring in any more baklava into work to leave near the coffee machine, in case it might be interpreted as the intimidating imposition of values not those shared by all Quebecers.
